Itinerary
RONDA, A CITY FULL OF SURPRISES:
The Guadalevín River runs through the city, dividing it in two and carving out the steep, 100 plus meters deep El Tajo canyon, upon which the city perches. The most impressive attraction to see in Ronda is definitely the “Puente Nuevo”, an arquitectural masterpiece that is built on the rift and connects the historical district with the modern part of the city. Without any surprise, the bridge is considered as one of the most famous monuments in Spain for the foreign tourism and this reputation is well earned, knowing that its construction started in 1734 and lasted 60 years because of a landslide that killed 50 people. But of course, this bridge is not the only point of interest in the city. Indeed, Ronda is one of the oldest cities in Spain but it has way more to offer and is a real pleasure for your eyes. The bullfight is the oldest mass spectacle in Spain and one of the oldest in the world. Did you already know that the “Plaza de Toros” of Ronda is one of the most monumental and the oldest in Spain? Indeed, Ronda is one of the “birthplaces” of bullfighting and is considered as the capital of bullfighting. Moreover its area of 66 meters diameter is considered the widdest in the world.

Another interesting monument in Ronda is the “Casa del Rey Moro”, a palace from the 18th century located in the historical district. Even if it’s forbidden to visit the palace, the property offers valuable terraced gardens and especially an old water catchment mine with a 200 steps ladder descending vertically for about 100 meters until the bottom of the rift, where lies the Guadalevín River.
