TOLEDO
During the trip we will visit one of the most beautiful cities in Spain – Toledo, the ancient capital city of Spain! Seen by many as the second Rome, Toledo was declared a Unesco World Heritage site in 1986. The city is located in a rocky promontory surrounded by the Tajo River, in the center of Spain, only 70 kilometers from Madrid.
Toledo has a unique history and culture. From its main entrance, the Bisagra’s Door, until the San Martin’s Bridge and the Alcántara’s Bridge, the city offers a lot to visit and to contemplate. The multiculturalism created by centuries of coexistence between Muslims, Jews and Christians is reflected in numerous historical and cultural sites such as churches, synagogues, mosques, convents, towers and narrow streets. There are also numerous artistic and cultural combinations with exhibition halls, museums and art galleries.
LOS MOLINOS
Among all the highlights of Consuegra, one certainly is its horizon line with all the windmills. The windmills of Consuegra inspired Miguel de Cervantes for the famous fight episode between Don Quixote and the giants. Don Quixote mistook the windmills for giants and fought vigorously against them. The 13 windmills were built in the first half of the nineteenth century and have names like “Sparks” and “Knight of the Green Gaban”, names that were taken from the book of Miguel de Cervantes. Currently they have ceased to perform their function as mills and are used for tourism purposes.
