During the Jurassic period, the Torcal of Antequera was a long maritime corridor, but then came the rise (more than 1000 meters above sea level) of sediments in the estate of the corridor, creating the mountains of Torcal, famous for its mushroom shapes! Nowadays, the Torcal offers a breathtaking scenery, considered unique in the world and is one of the best and most spectacular examples of karst relief across Europe.
Antequera is mainly famous for the Torcal, but the city also has a lot of charm to offer. Indeed, its historical district is in a really good state of conservation and from the “Alcazaba” you can admire the “Peña de los Enamorados” which has a very characteristic morphology as it looks like the head of an Indian lying; hence its name "El Indio de Antequera" (The indian of Antequera).
Right next to the center of Antequera you can also admire the archaeological site of the dolmens of Antequera, considered one of the best and most recognized in the world. In addition to that, the dolmen of Menga is the largest dolmen preserved in Europe, before the famous Stonehenge.
